Discovering how vehicles move

We have been talking about how vehicles move. Last week we decided to have some challenges to test out some ideas. We discovered that a zipline can make vehicles move because gravity pulls them towards the ground. We also discovered that a wind force can make vehicles move in water. The boats with a tall sail worked the best.

Gardening begins!

With Deb's help and plants from her garden we learned how to dig a hole and place the carrot seedling in, covering it firmly with soil.

U yuck! The worms in the worm farm are busy eating the food scraps to turn them into worm wee. We will use the wee on our garden to help the vegies grow.

Making another hill of rubbish

We saw the trucks dumping so much rubbish. Then we watched the big crusher truck squashing all the rubbish. It takes a long time to make the hill. It didn't even smell!!

Visit to the Transfer Station and Landfill Area

Chris bought her rubbish to the table and we had to think about what could be recycled. Did you know our school sweatshirts are made out of recycled drink bottles?

We watched the grader push the rubbish into special areas. Some of it got pushed to the shoot where a truck catches it and takes it to the Landfill Area.

Kirat, JJ and Tenequa were recycling the rubbish. Plastic goes in here!!

Joziah had a bag of newspapers. He found the newspaper bin easily. Great recycling Joziah!!

Wow don't we look fabulous in our high vis vests. We wore these to keep us safe.

Chris told us it took 16 years to make a huge hill of rubbish. All the rubbish is pressed down and layered to make a hill. Then they put soil over the top and plant grass. They have little pipes to let the air out!! There's Mrs Kelly standing by the big hill that is made of rubbish.

ANZAC activities

Our buddies from Room 12 made poppies for us to wear at our special ANZAC assembly.
Thanks Buddies!!

Noah loved our ANZAC biscuits. YUM!!

Yah! We got to sit in the front rows for our ANZAC Assembly. We could see the crosses and the wreaths. Noah and Hannah represented our classes with a senior. The wreath was made from lots of poppies. We watched Mr Wright play "The Last Post" on his harmonica. It was a great assembly.

Learning in the Sandpit.

Today Room 6 went to the sandpit. We are learning about taking turns, sharing and about including others in our activities. Ella and Xanthia dug a deep hole and measured how deep it was by comparing it with themselves. Pippa and Greer measured their castle. It was as tall as the spade but taller than the bucket. The boys had to fill many small buckets to fill their lake but they decided it was much quicker to use the hose down a ramp that went directly into the lake. Some children made castles using sticks as the edges. How many sticks did Che use??

Working with a Buddy.

In Room 6 we are learning how to work together. We need to take turns and share ideas. We need to help each other and say "OK" to others' ideas sometimes. At times we need to listen and sometimes we need to tell our buddy our own ideas.
